Optimum Recovery Mold Test Kit

Bioaerosol Cassette Volumetric Glue Spore Traps are made by a number of companies, most of whom offer multiple choices of available cassette types for a variety of air samplings. Many of the cassettes offered are better suited for spore trapping airborne Fungals and offer better methods for analysis as well. The reliance on the Bioaerosol Cassette Volumetric Glue Spore Trap by the Professionals and Individuals of the Mold Industry is by choice, not manufacturer limitation.

Bioaerosol Cassette Volumetric Glue Spore Traps are generally compared to prepared petri dishes (mould media) using settling methods. Prepared petri dish settling methods do not work. The comparison should be made with a polycarboniate or cellulose filter which is capable of rapid assay or viable culture.

Sampling

Bioaerosol Cassettes: Volumetric Glue Spore Trap: Various air flow rates and sampling times. Volumetric sampling is the claim to fame for this device: a known volume of air. The blow-by is so great with Bioaerosol Cassettes that a second trap, preferably a viable filter cassette, should be used or a second Bioaerosol Cassette will improve capture efficiency.


 

Air volumetric Sampling Filter Cassettes (polycarboniate or cellulose), Spore Traps: Various airflow rates and sampling times. Requires culture if cellulose filter is used; polycarboniate filters must be dissolved and concentrated in preparation for direct microscopic examination.

Transparent Tape Lifts: Tape is pressed against surface for retrieval of contaminate.

Tubed Swabs with Media: Surface is swabbed or swiped and reinserted in tube.

Q-tip or Dry Swab: Surface is swiped and placed in corner of Ziploc Baggie, wrapped or twisted and taped.

Prepared Petri Dishes (mould media): Used for Anderson type N6 Impactor air impaction sampling or settling plates (exposing media to open air and letting gravity work). Prepared Petri Dishes are non-synthetic or synthetic simple (one formula) solid culture media, single dimensional (surface only) to be inoculated (impacted, looped or streaked).

Analytical Methods

Bioaerosol Cassettes: The impaction slide is dyed and direct microscopic examination performed for presumptive identification, and a count is preformed on a small portion of the slide. Numbers are then calculated for reporting count.

Bioaerosol Cassettes can also be read by Q-PCR DNA; the spore trap can capture a large air volume over an extended period of time (hours). However, the glue will possibly dry and lose capture efficiency, which is not that good to start with.

When results are compared to viable filter trap taken in tandem with Bioaerosol Cassettes, comparatively the Bioaerosol Cassettes perform poorly. See report Click Here.

Bioaerosol cassette glue spore traps evidently either do not trap yeast, or it is unrecognizable on a spore trap. Bioaerosol cassette blow-by was measured utilizing tandem bioaerosol cassettes and viable filter spore traps or using sterile 2X2 gauge in a cassette. The results speak for themselves. Five different laboratories were used for spore trap analysis. All spore traps were 150-liter grab samples at 15 liters per minute 10-minute grab time. No bioaerosol cassette spore traps reported yeast, yet we recovered yeast from 18 of the 20 viable samples.

Use Diluent to dissolve filter and disperse organisms into complex drop out media..
